Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern Merger Announcement

Union Pacific Corporation and Norfolk Southern Corporation have announced a merger agreement to create America's first transcontinental railroad. The transaction, valued at $85 billion, will combine the two companies into a single entity with over $250 billion in enterprise value. The merger is expected to unlock approximately $2.75 billion in annualized synergies and deliver substantial long-term value for shareholders. The combined company will operate over 50,000 route miles across 43 states, connecting major ports and international gateways. The merger aims to enhance the U.S. supply chain, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and preserve union jobs. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by early 2027.
