NanoViricides Announces Phase II Trial of NV-387 for Mpox and Potential Ebola Application
On May 20, 2026, NanoViricides, Inc. announced during the Alliance Global Partners Healthcare Companies Showcase that its lead drug candidate, NV-387, is entering a Phase II clinical trial for the treatment of Mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). NV-387 is a broad-spectrum antiviral nanoviricide. Dr. Anil R. Diwan, the company's President and Executive Chairman, also highlighted the potential of NV-387 and a backup candidate (NV-387 encapsulating Remdesivir) to address the current Ebolavirus (Bundibugyo strain) epidemic in the DRC. The company believes its oral formulation of remdesivir, encapsulated within NV-387 micelles, protects the drug from metabolism and improves its efficacy compared to standard infusions. While NV-387 is the primary focus for clinical regulatory development due to its broad-spectrum activity, the encapsulated remdesivir version remains a backup. The company already has an active clinical site in the DRC for Mpox patients, which could potentially facilitate response efforts to the Ebola outbreak depending on local public health authorities.
