Hydro One Limited Files Application for Durham Kawartha Power Line
Hydro One Networks Inc. has submitted a leave-to-construct application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for the proposed Durham Kawartha Power Line. This project involves constructing a new 55-kilometer double-circuit, 230-kilovolt transmission line between Clarington Transformer Station and Dobbin Transformer Station. The estimated cost is $430 million, and the line is expected to be operational by 2029. This initiative aims to support regional growth, enhance grid reliability, and improve power transfer capabilities across central and eastern Ontario, including Peterborough, Quinte West, and the Ottawa region. A key aspect of the project is Hydro Oneβs First Nation Equity Partnership Model, offering proximate First Nations a 50% equity stake in the transmission line component. This collaboration extends to the planning, development, and construction phases. Ryan Docherty, Executive Vice President at Hydro One, highlighted the project as part of a significant investment in transmission infrastructure to meet increasing electricity demand and strengthen the grid.
