Algoma Steel Group Inc. Forms Joint Venture with Roshel Inc. for Ballistic Steel Production
Algoma Steel Group Inc. has formed a joint venture with Roshel Inc., a Canadian defense manufacturer, to establish Roshel Algoma Defence Solutions Inc. (RADS). This new entity aims to create a Canadian Centre of Excellence for Ballistic Steel Production, offering full-cycle capabilities in Canada, including metal fabrication, forming, welding, and machining. The partnership aligns with Canada's new Defence Industrial Strategy, emphasizing sovereign industrial capabilities and Buy Canadian policies. RADS will support various defense procurements, including Light Utility Vehicles (LUVs), the Domestic Arctic Mobility Enhancement (DAME) program, ships, and submarines, as well as other industries like infrastructure, marine, aerospace, and security. The venture is expected to create over 500 high-quality manufacturing jobs and strengthen Canada's skilled industrial workforce and domestic supply chains. Algoma Steel will leverage its transition to electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking, producing steel under the brand Voltaβ’ with significantly lower emissions.
